In 1950, the first rocket launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, was the Bumper V-2. This two-stage rocket, combining a V-2 missile with a WAC Corporal rocket, reached record altitudes of almost 400 kilometers. It was primarily used for testing rocket components and studying the upper atmosphere.
