Orion in Red and Blue

NASA APOD · David Lindemann
COSMIC MESSAGE

This colorful image of part of the constellation Orion comes from specific wavelengths of light. Red light is emitted by hydrogen and sulfur, while blue-green light comes from oxygen. The colors in this image have been digitally reassigned to highlight their elemental origins. This composite, painstakingly created from hundreds of images, took nearly 200 hours to collect.
