M16: In and Around the Eagle Nebula

NASA APOD · Andrew Klinger
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Eagle Nebula, M16, is a star-forming region located about 7,000 light-years away. The bright area is a window into a larger dark cloud of dust, where new stars are being born. Inside this cavity, tall pillars and round globules of gas and dust remain, sculpted by the light and winds of young, bright blue stars.
