The Great Carina Nebula, also known as NGC 3372, is a jewel of the southern sky. Spanning over 300 light-years, it is one of our galaxy's largest star-forming regions. This gorgeous telescopic close-up reveals remarkable details of glowing interstellar gas and obscuring cosmic dust clouds. At 7,500 light-years away, it is easily visible to the unaided eye.
