New Data: Ultima Thule Surprisingly Flat

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Ultima Thule is not what scientists first thought. When the New Horizons spacecraft flew past in January, early images suggested it had two spherical lobes. But new data, including how the object eclipsed background stars, shows it is surprisingly flat, more like two pancakes pressed together. This distant Kuiper Belt object continues to reveal its secrets.
