A February without Sunspots

NASA APOD · Alan Friedman (Averted Imagination)
COSMIC MESSAGE

Our Sun's face was blank in February, without a single sunspot. This is a sign of a deep solar minimum, when the Sun's activity drops. Fewer sunspots mean the Sun is slightly dimmer and the solar wind, a stream of particles flowing from the Sun, is less intense. This quiet period is part of the Sun's natural 11-year cycle.
