Sharpless 249 and the Jellyfish Nebula

NASA APOD · Steve Milne
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Jellyfish Nebula is a normally faint and elusive object, captured here in a two-panel mosaic. It is made of sulfur, hydrogen, and oxygen atoms, shown in red, green, and blue hues. The nebula is anchored by two bright stars, Mu and Eta Geminorum, at the foot of the celestial twin, Gemini. Its arcing ridge of emission and dangling tentacles give it its name.
