Stars are forming in the bridge between these colliding galaxies, known as Arp 194. Usually, star formation is confined to galaxy disks or tidal tails during collisions. Analyses of Hubble images and computer simulations suggest the bottom galaxy passed through the top one within the past 100 million years. This interaction has left bright knots of young stars in the connecting bridge.
