These spiral galaxies are spinning at exceptionally high speeds, faster than their visible mass suggests they should. This observation supports the hypothesis of dark matter, an unseen form of mass that adds gravitational pull, preventing the galaxies from tearing themselves apart. These are among the fastest-rotating disk galaxies known, implying very massive dark matter halos.
