Lunar Eclipse at the South Pole

NASA APOD · Aman Chokshi
COSMIC MESSAGE

Last May, a total lunar eclipse at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. The Moon slid through Earth's shadow, completely immersed for about 85 minutes. This time-lapse captured the eclipse above the horizon, sharing the cold night with the aurora australis and the central Milky Way. The BICEP and South Pole Telescope structures are visible in the foreground.
