Mercury Crosses a Quiet Sun

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The black dot crossing the Sun is the planet Mercury, captured during its transit last month. While usually passing above or below the Sun, Mercury appeared to cross directly through the middle this time. The Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) in Earth orbit provided a clear view of this event with its HMI instrument.
