N63A is one of the largest supernova remnants in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a neighboring galaxy to the Milky Way. Light from the stellar explosion reached Earth about 2,000 years ago. The expanding explosion front destroys or displaces gas clouds, leaving behind dense knots of gas and dust.
