COSMIC MESSAGE

This detailed telescopic view shows the Moon's south pole from southern California. The lunar terminator, the sunset shadow line, approaches from the left during the Moon's third quarter phase. The foreshortened perspective makes the rugged southern lunar highlands appear as a dense field of oval-shaped craters. Below and left of center is the sharp-walled Tycho crater.
