Spitzer's Trifid

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Trifid Nebula, also known as Messier 20, is a popular target for astronomers in Sagittarius, about 5,500 light years away. In visible light, dark dust lanes divide it into three parts. This infrared image from the Spitzer Space Telescope, however, penetrates the dust. It reveals glowing dust clouds and newly formed stars hidden within the nebula.
