COSMIC MESSAGE
The massive star IRS 4, only about 100,000 years old, is beginning to shape its surroundings. Material streaming from this newborn star has formed the Sharpless 2-106 Nebula, S106. A large disk of dust and gas orbiting IRS 4 gives the nebula an hourglass shape. Gas near IRS 4 emits light after being ionized, while dust farther away reflects the star's light.
