The Porpoise Galaxy from Hubble

NASA APOD · Raul Villaverde
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Porpoise Galaxy, NGC 2936, was once a normal spiral galaxy. It got too close to the massive elliptical galaxy NGC 2937, seen below it, and is now being distorted by the gravitational interaction. This close encounter has not only deflected the galaxy but also triggered a burst of young blue stars within it.
