Every time Venus passes Earth, it shows the same face. This animation shows the positions of the Sun, Venus, and Earth between 2010 and 2023. This inferior conjunction, when Venus and Earth are closest, happens today. We've only known about this synchronized rotation for about 50 years, thanks to radio telescopes that can peer through Venus's thick clouds.
