This sharp image of Mars, captured from Earth, shows the Red Planet's south polar cap bathed in sunlight. The prominent dark feature, Syrtis Major, extends toward the right. Mars was months away from its opposition in October 2020, when it would be closest to Earth and offer even better telescopic views.
