From Earth, Saturn never appears as a crescent. However, the robotic Cassini spacecraft captured this natural color image of crescent Saturn in 2007. It shows the planet's rings from their unilluminated side, a view not possible from Earth. Subtle cloud band colors and the complex shadows of the rings are visible.
