The Shifting Tails of Comet NEOWISE
NASA APOD · Ignacio Llorens
COSMIC MESSAGE
Comet NEOWISE's blue ion tail always points away from the Sun. As the comet rounded our Sun, its ion tail appeared to shift directions. This change was due to Earth's noticeable movement in its orbit, which made the Sun appear to shift in the sky between July 17 and 25, 2020.
