Mars reappears from behind the Moon's dark limb in this stack of video frames. Earlier, the Moon had passed in front of Mars, an event called a lunar occultation. This occultation was seen from Maceio, Brazil. The Moon was near its farthest point from Earth, about 400,000 kilometers away. Mars was almost 180 times more distant.
