Orion Nebula in Oxygen, Hydrogen, and Sulfur

NASA APOD · César Blanco González
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Orion Nebula, M42, is a well-known stellar nursery about 1,500 light-years away. It is a region where hot, young stars are forming within a large molecular cloud. Many of the filamentary structures are shock waves, where fast-moving material collides with slower gas. This image highlights the nebula's glowing gas in oxygen, hydrogen, and sulfur light.
