Arecibo Telescope Collapse

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

For over 50 years, the Arecibo Telescope in Puerto Rico was the largest single-dish radio telescope in the world. Starting in 1963, its 305-meter dish collected data that measured Mercury's spin, mapped Venus's surface, and discovered the first exoplanets. It also verified gravitational radiation and searched for extraterrestrial intelligence. The instrument collapsed in 2020.
