A Colorful Quadrantid Meteor

NASA APOD · Frank Kuszaj
COSMIC MESSAGE

Meteors can be colorful, a feature often captured by cameras even if the human eye misses it. This Quadrantid meteor, photographed over Missouri, USA, was impressively bright and colorful. The radiant grit, likely from asteroid 2003 EH1, blazed a path across Earth's atmosphere, with colors originating from ionized elements released as the meteor disintegrated.
