The Moon During a Total Lunar Eclipse
How does the Moon's appearance change during a total lunar eclipse? This time-lapse video of the January 31, 2018 eclipse keeps the Moon bright and centered over five hours. The full moon is initially visible, then Earth's circular shadow moves across it. Stars move in the background as the Moon orbits Earth. The light blue hue at the shadow's edge is caused by Earth's atmosphere.
