Inside the head of this interstellar monster, a star is slowly destroying it. The monster is actually a series of gas and dust pillars, light-years in length, informally known as Mystic Mountain. The star itself is hidden by opaque dust, but it ejects opposing beams of energetic particles called Herbig-Haro jets. This region is about 7,500 light-years away in the Carina Nebula.
