Thackeray's Globules

COSMIC MESSAGE
These opaque clouds of interstellar dust and gas are known as Thackeray's Globules, located in the stellar nursery IC 2944. These large globules might be able to form new stars. A. D. Thackeray first spotted them in 1950 using a telescope in South Africa. IC 2944 is about 7,600 light-years away in the constellation Centaurus.
