May's perigee Full Moon passed through Earth's shadow, visible to skygazers around the Pacific. This time-lapse series, taken from western North America, shows the total lunar eclipse as the Moon sinks toward the Sierra Nevada mountains. Two exposures, combined at mid-eclipse, reveal the Moon's reddened color against the dark night sky and the diffuse starlight of the Milky Way.
