Three Clusters in Puppis
NASA APOD · Dave Doctor
COSMIC MESSAGE
Three open star clusters are visible in the constellation Puppis, a region rich with young stars. M46, about 5,500 light-years away, is to the left and below center. M47, closer at 1,600 light-years, is right of center. These clusters are born together near the plane of the Milky Way, but their stars gradually disperse over time due to gravitational forces.
