Swiss Alps, Martian Sky

NASA APOD · Jens Bydal
COSMIC MESSAGE

This snowy mountain and skyscape was captured near Melchsee-Frutt, Switzerland, on February 6. The reddish daylight and blue-tinted glow around the afternoon Sun are colors characteristic of the Martian sky. Fine dust particles rich in iron oxides are lofted from the surface of Mars, scattering sunlight to create these hues, while the Sun appears about half as bright as from Earth.
