NGC 4631, also known as The Whale Galaxy, is a large spiral galaxy seen edge-on. It's only 25 million light-years away in the constellation Canes Venatici. Its slightly distorted wedge shape is visible in this color image, showing its yellowish core, dark dust clouds, and bright star clusters. NGC 4631 is similar in size to our Milky Way.
