The protostar within dark cloud L1527 is only 100,000 years old, still embedded in the gas and dust that feed its growth. The James Webb Space Telescope's NIRCam image shows a thick, edge-on disk, larger than our solar system, surrounding the young stellar object. This disk supplies material to the protostar while hiding it from Webb's direct infrared view.
