A Double Star Cluster in Perseus

NASA APOD · Greg Polanski
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Double Cluster in Perseus, NGC 869 and NGC 884, is bright enough to be seen without binoculars from a dark location. These open clusters are over 7,000 light-years distant. The Greek astronomer Hipparchus cataloged this unusual double cluster, though its discovery likely predates recorded history.
