M1: The Crab Nebula from Hubble

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Crab Nebula is what remains after a star exploded in 1054 AD. This Hubble Space Telescope image shows its complex filaments in three colors chosen for scientific interest. The nebula spans about 10 light-years, and its filaments appear to have less mass and higher speed than expected from the original supernova.
