The dark-floored crater Plato and the sunlit peaks of the Lunar Alps are visible in this telescopic image of the Moon. While Earth's Alps formed from colliding continental plates, the lunar Alps were likely created by the impact that formed the Mare Imbrium, or Sea of Rains.
