NASA APOD · Patrick A. Cosgrove
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Dumbbell Nebula, also known as M27, is a planetary nebula. It is one of the brightest in the sky, visible with binoculars towards the constellation Vulpecula. Charles Messier first recorded it in 1764, marking the first hint of what will become of our own Sun. Light takes about 1,000 years to reach us from M27.
