Stars, Dust and Nebula in NGC 6559

NGC 6559 is a textbook example of a star-forming region, a place where pandemonium reigns. The image shows red glowing emission nebulas of hydrogen, blue reflection nebulas of dust, and dark absorption nebulas of dust. All of these are components of the stellar nursery. The first massive stars formed here will emit energetic light and winds that erode and sculpt their birthplace, before eventually exploding.
