A supernova recently exploded in the lower arm of spiral galaxy NGC 1097. Supernova SN 2023rve was discovered last month and is likely the death explosion of a massive star, possibly leaving a black hole. NGC 1097 is 45 million light-years away in the constellation Fornax. It is visible with a small telescope.
