Dust and the Western Veil Nebula
NASA APOD · Jiang Wu
COSMIC MESSAGE
The Western Veil Nebula is part of a much larger structure, the remnant of a star that exploded about 15,000 years ago in the constellation Cygnus. This image shows the wispy, still-expanding gas cloud, which is so large and dim it requires binoculars to see. Filaments like the Witch's Broom Nebula are visible, glowing from the shockwaves of the ancient supernova.
