Gone in 60 Seconds: A Green Flash Sunset

NASA APOD · Tengyu Cai
COSMIC MESSAGE

In this 60-second video, the setting Sun appears green and wavy at its top edge. This phenomenon, known as a green flash, is caused by layers of hot and cold air in Earth's atmosphere. These atmospheric layers not only distort the Sun's image but also act like a prism, dispersing its light into different colors. The unusual color is only visible for a brief moment as the Sun sets.
