Fermi's 12-year All-Sky Gamma-ray Map

This is what the universe looks like in gamma rays, a map compiled from 12 years of observations by NASA's Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope. Fermi sees light with energies a billion times greater than what our eyes can detect. The bright stripe across the middle is the central plane of our Milky Way galaxy, glowing with powerful gamma-ray sources.
