Mercury's Vivaldi Crater from BepiColombo
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Vivaldi Crater on Mercury is a puzzling feature, 215 kilometers across, with two rings and a smooth floor. Scientists are not sure why it formed this way. The BepiColombo spacecraft imaged it in detail on a recent flyby. Large circular features on rocky bodies are typically from impacts or volcanic eruptions. In Vivaldi's case, it is possible both occurred: a heavy impact followed by volcanic infilling.
