On October 2nd, the Moon passed in front of the Sun, creating an annular solar eclipse. This 'ring of fire' eclipse was visible along a narrow path mostly over the Pacific Ocean and parts of South America. A partial eclipse was seen over a much wider area. This photo captures the eclipse at sunrise, with the Moon just beginning to cover the Sun's disk.
