In the constellation Monoceros, the Unicorn, lies a complex jumble of cosmic gas and dust known as NGC 2264. This star-forming region, about 2,700 light-years distant, contains reddish emission nebulae excited by light from newborn stars and dark interstellar dust clouds. This region includes the Fox Fur Nebula, the Cone Nebula, and the Christmas Tree Cluster.
