The Crab Nebula, M1, is a supernova remnant, the remains of a star that exploded in 1054. This telescopic view combines broadband color data with narrowband data. It shows emission from ionized sulfur, hydrogen, and oxygen atoms, revealing the tangled filaments within the expanding debris.
