The Variable Nebula NGC 2261

COSMIC MESSAGE

NGC 2261, also known as Hubble's Variable Nebula, changes its appearance over just a few weeks. This interstellar cloud of dust and gas is about one light-year across and 2500 light-years away. The bright star R Monocerotis sits at the tip of this fan-shaped nebula.
