A young crescent moon can be difficult to spot because it stays close to the Sun in the sky. This telephoto snapshot, taken at sunset, shows a slender sunlit lunar crescent clearly visible near the western horizon. The moon was about 1.5 days old, with only two percent of its surface illuminated.
