COSMIC MESSAGE
The Great Nebula in Orion, M42, is a star-forming region visible as a faint smudge to the naked eye. This sharp, colorful telescopic image reveals its glowing gas and dust, surrounding hot, young stars. M42 is about 40 light-years across, at the edge of an immense molecular cloud 1,500 light-years away within our Milky Way's spiral arm.
