The Whirlpool Galaxy, also known as M51, is a classic spiral galaxy about 30 million light-years away. This deep image combines observations in different colors. M51 is one of the brightest and most picturesque galaxies in the sky, visible even with good binoculars toward the constellation Canes Venatici.
