Spiral Galaxy NGC 1512: Wide Field

NASA APOD · Daniel Stern
COSMIC MESSAGE

Most galaxies do not have multiple rings, but NGC 1512 has three. Near its center is a nuclear ring, glowing with new stars. Further out is the inner ring of stars and dust, which connects to a central bar. The outermost ring is a ragged structure, visible in this wide-field image.
